Lord, Make me an instrument of thy peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, j faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not so much to seek to be consoled as to console.
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
| How to Know God's Will For Your Life | |
| Those who would know the will of God must be"dead in earnest". "No one may ever take the attitude,"let God show me His will and I'll consider it, "and then hope to hear God speak. Understand that the plan of God is the superlative of all plans. It is complete, incomparable, and perfect. But God will simply not reveal His will until your heart is ready to receive it. |
The central New Testament teaching about the subject is found in Romans 12:1, 2 which present a summary of what the Lord expects of us and an appeal based in His love and mercy. |
|
1. God's Will for Your Life God's plan is for believers only. When we read all of Psalm 32, we find the promises of guidance is given only to those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are under the blood, who have made confession to God. No unsaved person has any claim to the promises about a divinely planned life. |
|
| The world knows nothing of the concept of a God-planned life, and for some reason many believers have failed to realize how much of the Bible is devoted to it. As a result, one constantly meets people who have missed the way somewhere. They made wrong choices, overlooked golden opportunities, and finally resigned themselves to a life of unpleasant drudgery or disappointed hopes. Although they would give almost anything to be able to make a fresh start, they know of no way to rectify the mistake of having planned their own lives and failed. No instructed Christian needs to fear any such unhappy prospect. God has made us, and He knows our capacities, our weaknesses, our innermost longings and aspirations. There is a divine blueprint for each one of God's people. It is exactly suited to our own peculiar needs, so that it enables us to make the most of our possibilities. It has not only this life in view, but also the life to come. It is easy to discover what it is. In fact, the Lord is more desirous that we learn His plan than we ourselves are. |
|
He has made every provision to enable us to follow. If we have not previously sought to live in accordance with it, we can begin at once, no matter what our age.
This is a neglected truth of the Scriptures, but a prominent one. It is of great importance; it is exceedingly precious to the soul. To take but one detail from the riches of truth dealing with the subject. God promises to give us the desires of our hearts if we meet the simple conditions set forth in the Word (Psalm 37:4) Who can remain indifferent in the face of a guarantee like this, backed as it is by the faithfulness of God?
The greatest proof of God's desire to guide your life is to be found in the living and powerful Word of God, the Scriptures themselves. Over and over it is directly stated and everywhere it is implied, that God has a purpose, a plan for the lives of His children. Constantly on the pages of Bible you are earnestly besought to surrender your will to the omniscient will of God. Our greatest example is the Lord Jesus. He testified:"I come down from heaven not to do Mine own will but the will of Him that sent Me" (John 6:38).
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW GOD'S PLAN
At least seven facts are set forth in the Scriptures showing the importance of learning the plan of God for our lives. They may be applied not only to the specific program of God for each individual, but also to the general will of God for all His children which is a life of constant obedience to His Word. Each of these seven considerations is sufficient in itself to make it imperative that we seriously face the question of what the Lord would have us do.
